I basically got lost for a good 4-6 hours since I decided to do Oldschool on my first playthrough. If you end up needing to backtrack or you take really long to complete areas, then you are going to need to grind/farm for food. Ultimately it's going to come down to how you play. It's not like you receive penalties from having a low food bar, except when you are starving. Also, don't forget you don't need the Food bar at 100% all the time. My first playthrough I had my Minotaur and Lizardman take up that Endurance(or whatever) trait that decreases how much food they need.
It also depends on your Party and their Race/Traits, Minotaurs and Lizardmen, with Fast Metabolism, will eat up food significantly faster than others.
